One of the best things about working on Sweets & Bitters is having an excuse to reach out to people I really admire. David Wondrich's witty and deeply researched Imbibe! and Punch! are my favorite books about cocktails. For my story "A Rye Look at New York" in the new Sweets & Bitters, I asked him to share some history and recipes–it was such fun that I wish we could've talked all day!
Here is his recipe for using New York Distilling Company's Chief Gowanus New Netherland Gin in an "improved cocktail" which is essentially an old fashioned with a few extra ingredients. (This would be also great with and aged gin, genever, or whiskey.)
Improved New Netherland Gin Cocktial
